강의 개요
Human sexuality is an aspect of social interaction that is especially volatile in the practice of cross-cultural ministry. The sexual drive and emotional needs of persons engaged in ministry relationships and the differing cultural expectations about the regulation and control of courtship, marriage, gender roles and sexual behavior create a potentially explosive blend of interpersonal and social expectations. This course will examine the ways in which people across cultures seek to regulate sexual behavior, and provide biblical and comparative cultural perspectives on the topic. Assignments will guide students toward understanding themselves and understanding others on this topic. The course will help students begin the process of reflection on sexuality, the grace of God, and constructive social and spiritual disciplines that may lead to effective cross-cultural ministry.
사회적 상호작용의 한 측면인 인간의 성(sexuality)은 특별히 타문화 사역을 할 때 휘발적인 위험성이 있다. 사역 관계와 연관된 개인의 성적 충동(sexual drives)과 감정적인 욕구, 구애, 결혼, 성 역할(gender roles), 성적 행동(sexual behavior)에 대한 규정과 통제의 서로 다른 문화적인 기대는 대인 관계와 사회적 요구사항들 가운데 잠재적으로 폭발적인 혼합물을 유발시킨다. 본 강의는 타문화권에 있는 사람들이 성적 행동을 규제하려고 애쓰는 방법들을 검토하고, 본 강의의 주제인 성에 대한 성경적이고, 비교 문화적인 관점을 수강생들에게 제공할 것이다. 성이라는 본 주제에 대한 연구 과제물을 통해 수강생들을 자신과 남을 이해하는 방향으로 나아갈 것이다. 본 강의는 효과적인 타문화 사역으로 이끌 수 있는 성(sexuality), 하나님의 은혜, 건설적인 사회적, 영적 훈련에 대한 숙고의 과정을 시작할 수 있도록 학생들을 도울 것이다.
학습 결과
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to… an understanding of: (1) practice research to describe courtship, marriage, gender roles, and the social regulation of sexual behavior in a culture different from their own, especially from the Korean Culture; (2) compare biblical and contemporary cases on courtship, marriage, gender and sexual behavior, and consider the theological implications of this comparison; (3) establish strategies to discern and disarm unwanted sexual advances from someone or from another cultural ministry context; and (4) learn and develop to set proper ministry boundary in cross-cultural context.
본 강의가 마쳐질 때, 수강생들은:
1. 자신들의 문화, 특히 한국 문화와 타문화 나타나고 있는 구애, 결혼, 성 역할(gender roles), 성적 행동(sexual behavior)에 대한 사회적인 규제들을 기술하기 위한 리서치를 수행할 수 있을 것이다.
2. 구애, 결혼, 성별(gender)과 성적 행동(sexual behavior)에 대한 성경적인 사례와 최근의 사례들을 비교하고, 그에 대한 신학적인 함축성을 숙고할 수 있을 것이다.
3. 타인이나 타문화 사역 가운데 발생할 수 있는 원치 않는 성관계를 노린 접근들(unwanted sexual advances)을 분별해내고, 그에 넘어가지 않는 전략들을 수립할 수 있을 것이다.
4. 타문화 상황에 적합한 사역의 경계선(ministry boundary) 수립에 대해 배우고, 그것을 발전시킬 수 있을 것이다.
